フタバサウルス（フタバスズキリュウ）：Futabasaurus suzukii

フタバスズキリュウ（双葉鈴木竜、学名：Futabasaurus suzukii ）は、後期白亜紀サントニアン期（約8500万年前）に日本近海に生息していた首長竜。爬虫類双弓類プレシオサウルス上科エラスモサウルス科に属する。日本国内で化石が初めて発見された首長竜として著名。発見から38年後の2006年にようやく新属新種として正式に記載された。

Futabasaurus suzukii was a plesiosaur that lived in the waters near Japan during the Santonian period of the late Cretaceous period (approximately 85 million years ago). It belongs to the reptile diapsid family plesiosaurinae and elasmosauridae. It is famous as the first plesiosaur whose fossil was discovered in Japan. It was finally officially described as a new genus and species in 2006, 38 years after its discovery.
